Second Grade

Welcome to Second Grade!

This year, your child will grow as a reader with a strong focus on phonics, fluency, and comprehension. In math, we use the Bridges Mathematics curriculum, which incorporates hands-on learning with a variety of manipulatives to help students explore concepts like place value, addition, subtraction, geometry, and measurement in meaningful ways.

Writing in second grade includes personal narratives, fictional stories, opinion writing, and letter writing. Students may also express their thoughts and learning through journals across the curriculum.

To support student growth, we use a variety of assessments throughout the year, including the Idaho Reading Indicator (Amira), and i-Ready Reading and Math Assessments. These help us understand each student’s needs and guide instruction.
